No Refund

There is not a custom boat builder in the world that would give you a refund after starting and scheduling your ordered boat.

Imagine a crew working for weeks on a boat using up shop time and materials. To no avail.

A builder does not make any profit until the boat is complete and delivered. Profit margins are low (see Boat Building Basics) and to stop construction in the middle of a project means that all the time spent getting the boat to that stage is wasted.

We could eventually sell the cancelled boat but you will never make up the time lost. Time is money. If we eventually resell a cancelled order we will sell a 100% boat that cost us 150% in time to build and wait for, this time lost eats into any profit the boat would have made.

It is wasted because if you can't finish this boat because of a cancellation, then the factory will never collect a dime of profit. So all the time spent working on this boat and blocking out the production schedule for this boat is wasted.

In fact they have now lost 'time' working on a non-productive boat when they could have been using the same time to complete another project that would have returned a profit.

A double hit.

In other words....
We can't replace the time because the time spent working on a boat that is cancelled is time that we COULD have spent working on another order that we could have finished and collected our wages with.

Cancellations interrupt cash flow that prevents the smooth flow of parts arriving and wages being paid. This adds to the cost of doing business and is another reason that no refunds are paid.

The daily overhead of a boat factory needs feeding and can't tolerate or afford a cancellation after time and money has been spent on a boat order.  The Schedule is set. Changing it costs time and money.

(Partial refunds are a possibility and those are on a case by case basis. You may have to wait until we can recover some of the lost money and time the cancellation has caused.)

Anyone have the time?
