Janice You are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your technical knowledge in a way of that makes sense to non technical people. In my research on solar I have been confused about when you need an inverter. Do you use one? Do you need one? Thank you in advance !!

Hi Claudia. For your purposes an inverter will be required. Basically the inverter changes 12-volt battery power into standard household current. The least expensive type does not play well (work properly) with any item using digital controls.

Watts count too. Although I have 1200 watts I would suggest you opt for larger. 2000 watts, continuous would be fine for most. I will write more about this later. This reply is the condensed version.
