Great article on how you easily prepare good, tasty food. Much appreciated. Not being the type to want to deal with a label book, why not just buy only tasty but calorie/ingredient efficient food to begin with? That way I can just grab whatever is in the cupboard and I won't have to deal with "organization"? Keep up the good work. Really appreciate what you do.
Your idea has merit Cap'n Skipper. It's that I don't always eat well, so the book gives me an idea of how bad I'm being. You are correct though. I need to stop buying bad stuff like Mint M&M's. I am weak when it comes to them. And a Snacker bag is Not a Single Serving. Well, it's not supposed to be.
Great idea Cap'n and thank you for your comment. I appreciate that. J.
My husband and I like full meals for dinner, but, as everyone knows, it's too hot to cook in the summer. My solution? Instant pot! We have a 6 quart and using online recipes we cook complete healthy meals in 30 to 40 minutes. The pot doesn't take up much space, has a stainless liner and doesn't heat up the galley. I don't use the stove or oven at all in the summer. It even makes great baked potatoes when we grill burgers. Thank you for your interesting articles Janice. I have learned much from you.
Hi Sharon. I have studied the Instant Pots. Indeed Baby (my daughter) has one and is fascinating with hers. Your inverter must be bigger than mine.
For your boat Sharon I'll bet it works great. I can well imagine the benefits of making potatoes for two in an Instant Pot. For all the benefits of a microwave, the nuker does not work well for larger quantities. For one, perfect. Two though... well it would be pushing matters.
Galley gear is a Serious weakness of mine Sharon. I think that one more thing and I'll be a better cook, eat healthier, etc. Sometimes that is true too.
I bought the coolest gizmo for eggs. It's called an Eggy Timer and is at Walmart -- $3. You put it in with the eggs when you are hard boiling them. The color changes as the eggs are cooked (temperature based) so NOW, finally my hard-boiled eggs are always all the way cooked through. Of course if I were sharp enough to write down the time when I start, that would work too. I always think "I'll remember this time" and "this time it will be different" -- it never is! Anyway, there will be a vignette about Eggy Timer. You really do need one. At least I did.
Writing the next article now and tomorrow I go for my driver's test. I hope I pass the dang thing. The neighbor is driving me up to take the test. A driving test in a Big truck ought to be "interesting" and hopefully in a good way. The last time I took a driving test I was driving a 1969 MG Midget. Red car, cute as a button. I loved that car.
Anyway, thank you so much for your nice comment. I appreciate that.
P.S. I do love my crock pot. It fits right into the sink -- a smaller one (the $10 version sold at Walmart) and it's a good size for me. I wouldn't mind it being a bit smaller but there you have it. Frankly though it is a pain in the transom to fish it out of the locker so often I'll cook something else. That tends to be a Winter meal item. Hmmm. Maybe I will get ambitious. But not tonight. Tonight I'm going to worry about passing a test so I can get a drivers license so BoatUS will write a boat owner's policy for Seaweed. Stupidity. Sigh. (But I did take a four hour class to learn that drugs are bad, which happens to be a requirement for all new drivers in the state of Florida. Gosh Sharon, I NEVER would have guessed that. To add insult to injury, I had to pay for the stinking test and it is timed so you have to wait until the timer says Proceed. Really. I could not make this up 'cause nobody in their right mind would believe it.
You know though, there are worse things. I have a great boat. Except for the stuff that needs fixing, upgrading or installing. Wish me luck! J.
Cool, Janice!! "The last time I took a driving test I was driving a 1969 MG Midget. Red car, cute as a button. I loved that car."
Sold it and upgraded to a MGB which was fun. I liked two-seaters. :)
