Halloween from Pam on 23 Oct '18

Seaweed looks cute and cozy with your Halloween decorations, Janice. ;) I have the decorations I received last year (thanks, again) out at work. I'll keep them displayed until Christmas. WOOT! You're getting a Waterproof Kindle Paperwhite. Perfect for being on a boat.....I need to think about that. :)

Hardware! from Ryan O on 23 Oct '18

Yes! I agree with you that you don't need everything to go sailing. Just a few spares, things you replace often, and get out there and enjoy it. Glad to see you weathered the storms OK!

Paperwhite wishes from Janice aboard Seaweed on 23 Oct '18

Ah Pam, at this point I am not sure I will get a Paperwhite. I would like one however the price in my opinion is too high. Unless there is a great sale I will be holding off.

My current Paperwhite is nearly four years old. The charging port is slightly wonky. Sometimes it doesn't charge which Always throws me into a panic! I love my Kindle.

The Paperwhite is a big step up from the original kindle. I am Never without mine. Whereas years ago I would Craft while waiting, now I pull out my Kindle and read. At least five books a week and often more.

Have I mentioned lately how wonderful this retirement thing is?!? I am so blessed to have the time and freedom to read. It is fabulous.

Mentally I debate which is better: the kindle or the computer. For me it is a toss-up. My website is only viable because of the World Wide Web, while an entire library is in my purse. How cool is that? We are living in a great age.

At anchor, pre-Kindle I have run out of books. That drove me to civilization. Now that should not happen again. I do read again old favorites so the Paperwhite is an important part of my life.

I thought I would miss the tactile pleasure of flipping pages in a book. Then I discovered a Kindle allows me to Bold text And increase font size. That combination works for me. Anyway if you don't have one, I believe Amazon offers a large enough window for returns if you want to try.

For folks like me who enjoy old books, Gutenberg has over 55,000 books for free. Amazon has a lot of free ones as well. Where a Kindle is bad is for new books. Those are costly, especially since it really is a digital copy ONLY you can enjoy. It is not like a paperback or hardcover book you can give away or sell when you're done.

However, libraries have something called Overdrive. With a library card you can borrow ebooks, even new ones, for free.

I've rambled. I'll bet you can guess that I like my Paperwhite. A lot!

Enjoy you pumpkin Pam. And Happy Halloween. Thanks too for your comment. I appreciate that. J.

Thank you Ryan. from Janice aboard Seaweed on 23 Oct '18

You are so right about hardware. So many folks ask about Spare parts and tools. For me it is the standard screwdrivers and vise grips along with hardware that is most often used. Just last night I knocked off a strip of teak veneer. Some glue and my vise grips, and ten minutes later the locker door looks as good as ever. It is not perfect and I will add a coat of varnish to seal it all together. For now the door looks a-okay.

There are many days I am grateful I live on a boat rather than Bristol yacht. I like looking at the spiffy yachts however am most comfortable in my own little world. Seaweed is just right for me.

Thanks for your concern re Hurricane Michael. Skipper and I dodged a bullet. Thanks too for commenting Cap'n Ryan. I love comments. J.
