Great job making the pole you had work for you. If you decide to pursue your fishing sport given your limited space you might want to look into the Cuban fishing hand reel. Fred uses one of those along with his regular rods...

Nice job with the reel, Janice! As for catching fishes, there are alternative methods you can use with your nice fishing pole. When I was in grade school I landed a Chinook salmon by hitting it on the head with my pole and flinging it onto the river bank while it was stunned. This method does lack finesse but it was effective. :)

I never could get used to the yoyo fishing method. At this point I suspect I'll jsut keep plugging away. Thank goodness for my canning, eh? At least I won't go hungry.

I'll leave the catching and cleaning to others. I volunteer to taste-test AND wash the dishes. You are cooking the fish on the grill, aren't you?!?

Not now though... no need to catch fish. They are floating to the surface. Ugh. Dang red tide.

Oh, speaking of red tide... remember Isis the snowy egret? Well, she grabbed a little floater and immediately spit it out. Later she did the same thing as it drifted further along. The fish must taste bad to the birds, which is a good thing. I don't want them to get sick.

My hotdog purchases have gone up. Isis eats at a few places along the canal so I'm not so worried about her. I saw Nevermore yesterday so he's okay too.

Years ago I saw that reel on the fishing boat. The memory stuck with me. I am glad you found my article of use. Good luck with all your projects too. (Anyone with a boat has Projects!)
