Boat motors from Pam on 8 Jul '24

Hi, Janice! The improvements to outboards do make them seem like a viable propulsion choice. I have no idea what they cost per horse power, but imagine they're no where near as spendy as a diesel engine. The boat show sounds like it was a lot of fun. 😊

The boat show was great Pam. from Janice aboard Seaweed on 9 Jul '24

A small diesel starts at about $20k, plus installation. The Suzuki 9.9 which could be an option for Seaweed is $3k plus installation. So a huge difference there for certain. Most outboards I've looked at come with a 4 to 5 year warranty. $3k is $750 a year which is slightly more than $2 a day.

HOWEVER, outboards do use more fuel so it isn't entirely an apples to apples comparison. If I decide firmly to do the loop I would definitely purchase at a minimum a 9.9 though IF fuel consumption isn't horrendously worse for a 25hp, that might be a better option.

My plans are written in sand and the tide is coming in! In the meantime I have been writing so that is good. I saw the grands last month which was great fun. They grow quickly.

Thanks does your comment Pam. You're the best. Stay cool.
