I think it might be a Chinese spoon rest.
Hmmm, the depth and shape would indicate a ladle holder of some sort, though it's pretty small for that. Marsha's idea has merit.
It is pretty. I suspect the flowers are violets or maybe pansies... I believe it to be old. The spoon rest may indeed be the answer. Thanks!
Because it has a handle of sorts I admit to confusion. It cannot be passed around a table so perhaps it is not for food at all.
Initially I considered perhaps for salt or maybe individual condiments. I'm not sure.
Well Pam I just got off the phone with a friend who suggests the scoop may be an Oriental spoon for something such as egg drop soup. Maybe so...
I imagined it to be something fabulous some lady a hundred years ago would use. Whatever it is, I admire the item. I feel so elegant and decadent enjoying a treat in that little scoop no matter what it is!
Well indeed I am surprised. Having obtained expert status by virtue of watching YouTube videos on this marvelous tablet of Antique Road Show episodes (that's me being silly of course) I genuinely didn't see the Asian influence. Now Dr. Lori V (she is a marvelous hoot, funny and smart!) says white China dishes/vases are more valuable than other colors. I do believe it is old because it feels delicate.
For me, it is pretty. Curiosity makes me wonder about its origins. J.
Great example of the difference between men and women...
The life I have created aboard Seaweed is multifaceted. Some days it is in the bilge, while other times I am in the galley. It is one of the better parts of this life. The variety keeps me happiest.
Tomorrow I'll introduce you to an old fishing family. No scoopers! (insert smile)
Thank you for the comment Ahab. I do appreciate input. Have a great day. Happy boating! J.
